Akwa United Appreciate Gov Eno’s Support, Promise Return to NPFL

The management of Akwa United Football Club has expressed deep appreciation to the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, for his unwavering support and encouragement following the club’s impressive performance in the first stanza of the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) Conference B.

Akwa United currently top Conference B with 19 points from nine matches, having recorded six wins, and hold a two-point lead at the summit.

Speaking while addressing sports journalists after the conclusion of the first stanza, Club Chairman, Mr. Joseph Eno, attributed the team’s success to the consistent backing and motivation received from Governor Umo Eno, noting that the club has enjoyed priority attention since the start of the season.

“We cannot thank our sports-loving Governor, His Excellency Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, enough for his undying and untiring support,” Mr. Eno said. “He has provided the necessary resources that oil the wheels of this club and given us hope and a reason to dream again.”

He added that the Governor’s commitment to sports development through the ARISE Agenda has been instrumental in the club’s resurgence.

“His faithful implementation of sports and football development is the reason we are flying high. His Excellency has given us everything we need; it is now left for us to reciprocate by taking this team back to the top where it rightly belongs.”

The Chairman also lauded the Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, describing him as a strong pillar of support to the club.

“We appreciate and thank the Honourable Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, for being a father to this team. He has supported us through advice, financial backing, networking, goodwill, and constructive criticism. He gives us his all, and we are deeply grateful.”

Mr. Eno acknowledged the competitive nature of the NNL but expressed confidence that the club would sustain its momentum in the second stanza, in line with the Governor’s directive for Akwa United to secure promotion back to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

“His Excellency has given us a clear mandate to return to the NPFL, so we cannot afford to slip. We shall remain focused and committed to achieving promotion this season.”

He further commended the players for their discipline, determination, and commitment, as well as the technical and non-technical staff for their professionalism and dedication.

“Our partners, Ibom Air, have also been amazing. Indeed, we are rising together, and together we shall reach the mountaintop.”

The Chairman concluded by thanking football stakeholders, fans, supporters and the media community for their unwavering loyalty and appealed for even greater support as the second stanza of the league resumes on 14 February 2026.
